Collaborative Human-AI Learning Ecologies for STEM+C

Collaborative Human-AI Learning Ecologies Lab

The CoHALE Lab studies how learners, teachers, and AI systems think and work together across STEM and computing contexts. We design AI-mentored learning environments, study them in real classrooms with partner teachers, and build theory about what productive human-AI collaboration looks like in education.

Directed by Dr. Tugce Aldemir and supported by the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and the Department of Teaching, Learning & Culture at Texas A&M University (2025–2027).

STEM+C learning
AI-guided, authentic scientific inquiry in K-12 classrooms, from agricultural science to XR-enhanced maker experiences.
Computational literacies & participation
Disciplinary computational thinking, data practices, and equitable participation, with a focus on rural schools.
AI literacy
AI literacy and AI-TPACK for preservice and in-service teachers, and safeguards for responsible AI integration.

Active projects

2026–2031
3AforCT (NSF CAREER, $1.6M), AI-guided, authentic Ag-STEM inquiry for cultivating computational thinking in rural middle schools.
2026–2031
AI-Driven Professional Learning (NSF, $2M, Co-PI), strengthening pre-service teachers' content knowledge, PCK, and mathematical creativity.
2024–2026
AIM4Rural (Emerge Grant, $49K), artificial intelligence mentorship for rural education.
2024–2026
AI-Enhanced CT & Agricultural Science (Catapult Grant, $30K), computational thinking through agricultural science in rural schools.
